What the app accesses, and why
- Location (while using the app). Used to find and rank chargers near you and to plan journeys. Your location is processed on your device. To show chargers and prices, the app requests map and availability data from our servers by geographic area; it does not send us your identity or a location history.
- Calendar (optional). If you turn on calendar-aware scheduling, the app reads your events on your device only to suggest charging times that fit your day. Calendar data is never uploaded.
- Camera / photos (optional). Only used if you choose to attach a photo when reporting a charger’s price.
- Notifications (optional). Used only to remind you of a cheaper charging window if you set a reminder. Handled on your device.
Maps, routes, and navigation (Apple & Google)
ChargeSort shows chargers on a map and can plan and start journeys. This involves the following services:
- Base map. The map itself is drawn using Apple’s MapKit; the map imagery is provided by Apple. The charger, price, and availability data shown on the map comes from our own service, as described below.
- Place search. When you search for a place or postcode (for example, to plan a journey), the text you type is sent to Apple’s mapping service to locate the point. We do not store it as an address.
- Drive-time and route estimates. To estimate drive times and plan journeys, ChargeSort sends route start and end points to Apple’s mapping service. It does not send your identity or a journey history.
- Navigation. When you choose to navigate to a charger, ChargeSort opens your chosen maps app — Apple Maps or Google Maps — with the destination. From that point your route is handled by that app under its own privacy policy.
These map and navigation functions involve Apple (and, if you choose it, Google). Aside from them, and Apple’s subscription check described below, ChargeSort communicates only with our own service, and never sends your vehicle, battery level, memberships, or preferences to anyone.
Information we do not collect
- No account, sign-up, or user profile.
- No tracking of you across other apps or websites; no advertising identifiers.
- No third-party analytics or advertising software in the app.
How the app gets its data
ChargeSort downloads charger, price, and availability data from our servers, which are delivered by our infrastructure provider. As with any website, the provider may automatically process standard technical request information (such as an IP address and the map area requested) to deliver content and keep the service secure. Any app that makes a network request exposes an IP address and the address of the thing it requests — that is how the internet works, and no app can avoid it. We do not collect, store, or access this to identify you, and it is never linked to you or used to track you.
Purchases
ChargeSort Plus subscriptions are processed by Apple through the App Store. We never receive or store your payment details. Apple’s handling of your purchase is governed by Apple’s own privacy policy.
Price reports
If you choose to report a charger’s price, the report is sent from your own email app to our support inbox (support@cobaltinfx.com), and — only if you attach one — a photo you select goes with it. Its content is whatever you write; the app never browses your photos otherwise. We receive only what you send.
Where your data lives, and removing it
Your app data — your vehicle, preferences, and charge history — is stored on your device. You can remove it at any time with Settings → Delete everything, or by deleting the app. Because we hold no account, we do not have a copy of this data to delete on our side.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have rights over any personal data, including access and erasure. As most of your data stays on your device and we operate no user accounts, there is generally nothing for us to hold about you. If you have any question or request, contact us at the address below and we will help. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
Children
ChargeSort is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update this page and the “last updated” date above.
